Gwyneth Paltrow has won a ski crash trial in Utah, with the jury awarding her $1 in damages. The lawsuit was brought against her by a retired optometrist, Terry Sanderson, who accused Paltrow of hitting him from behind while skiing at a Deer Valley Resort in 2016, causing him brain injuries and four broken ribs.
Paltrow denied the accusations and testified that Sanderson had crashed into her from behind. The trial lasted for three days, and the jury took less than two hours to deliberate before ruling in favor of Paltrow.
While the jury found that Paltrow was not responsible for the crash, the actress still expressed empathy for Sanderson, saying in a statement that she was “grateful to the jury for their careful consideration” and that “this unfortunate accident was simply that – an unfortunate accident.”
Paltrow, who is known for her lifestyle brand Goop, has been involved in legal disputes related to her company’s health and wellness products in the past. However, this trial was solely focused on the skiing incident.
The $1 award to Paltrow is a symbolic amount and indicates that the jury found that Sanderson did not suffer significant damages as a result of the crash.
